Trauma recovery is a process of resourcing your most vulnerable parts with curiosity, care, and compassion in order to reimagine your way forward with strength and confidence.

Trauma comes in many forms and can impact ones’  life in a multitude of ways. Whether it be a car accident, a natural disaster, the loss of a loved one, a job, divorce or a medical diagnosis; trauma  occurs when our bodies, hearts and minds feel unequipped to meet the needs of the moment.

Yet our bodies; and more specifically our nervous system and our brains are hard wired to protect us from perceived danger, although in limited ways, that can often exacerbate the difficulties we face leading to negative coping mechanisms that diminish our confidence and self trust.

When emotions like fear arise we don’t think; our body just responds, particularly if we carry other unresolved traumas from the past. We flee, hide, retreat or sometimes we fight; overtaken with anger while we try to defend or distance ourselves from a perceived threat. We might freeze in place and wait for the perceived threat to pass. These are automatic responses that can continue to arise throughout our lives even if the threat the body is anticipating is unequal to the situation at hand often causing disruptive Relationship Challenges, ineffective coping strategies like Substance Use/Abuse and Unresolved Grief.

I have Level 2 certification in Sensorimotor psychotherapy, which provides a wholistic body centered approach to talk therapy specifically developed  for healing trauma. With care and curiosity we will explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings and symptoms in the body to develop resources to regulate your nervous system and allow you increased freedom to meet the moment with clarity, safety, and confidence.
